Lebron James Workout

Lebron James might be one of the most naturally gifted athletes ever, but have you seen the Lebron James Workout?  I’ll totally agree that he is genetically blessed, standing 6’8 and weighing 260 lbs. of lean shredded muscle, but I think athletes fail to realize how hard he really works.

Most basketball players workouts consist of playing pick-up games and maybe touching a few “leg machines” in the weight room.   Think again this 2 time MVP lives for the weights, check it out…

You see he knows what every basketball player should know…

Strength Training = Getting Stronger/Muscle Mass

Getting Stronger/Muscle Mass = Jump Higher/Run Faster

It’s not just a matter of playing ball; it’s about training the whole body to increase lean mass, strength, and explosiveness through a well devised workout plan and a Lebron James diet.  If you increase your strength and speed, you increase your power, which translates directly to the court, making you jump higher and move quicker.

If you want to improve your game it starts in the weight room period.  Take a page out of Lebron’s workout routine.

  • Start your routine by using a dynamic warm up where you increase your core temperature in order to allow your muscles to get warm and loosen up.
  • Then move to a high intensity plyometric movement, some sort of high box jumps or multiple hurdle jumps.
  • After that move into the weight room to perform a real high power movement such as cleans, snatches, or jerks.  This will allow you to train hip flexion/extension, which are probably the most important movements in basketball.
  • Next, move to a real heavy strength movement.  Try heavy weight, low rep squats, overhead press (like King James was doing in the video), or bench press.  This will let you increase your power on the court.  Remember Increase Strength = Increase Power.
  • Finally finish with a circuit of accessory muscles.  These are the muscles or movements that supplement your actual game, such as core, arms, and hip exercises that mimic the games movements.

There you have it the same layout professionals use to really improve their overall game.  If you want to get to the top, you need to train like you’re there.  If you still are wondering how to go about devising a good workout routine for the off-season, check this training out here...

Wanna play like Lebron? Train harder than him, Period
