Ways To Get Faster Part 1

Get FasterSpeed Training can be defined as many different things depending on what sport you perform or even what position you play.  For these purposes were talking straight linear speed, as fast as an athlete can go from point A to point B.  What I want to do here is break down the spectrum of a world class sprinter by exposing the "traps" that are robbing you from ever getting faster.

The 1st trap that we can talk about would be in the neck and shoulder region.  In this region we see many muscle imbalances in athletes when muscles become to tight or overdeveloped.

The first tightness we see is in the sternocleidomastoid, which is the muscle basically in the back of the neck.  When this muscle is too tight we are not able to create the best mechanical advantage and become out of alignment.  In order to correct this stretch the neck out properly before training.

The next tightness which is more important would be the pec minor.  This muscle is typically overdeveloped and causes the shoulders to turn inward towards the midline of the chest.  The reason this can slow you down is because when a sprinter runs they need to be as loose as possible and having a tight pec minor will usually affect the natural fluid arm pump.

We all know that the faster you pump your arms the faster your legs will move, well in order to prevent this from slowing down we need to make sure the arms are pumping as fluid as possible and not crossing the body.

You can simply stretch this by placing your elbow at a 90 degree angle on a wall on the inside and turn outward until you feel a stretch in your chest.
