The Theory Behind Wendler 531

When it comes to training theory, the Wendler 531 program is very simple. The goal of the program is to get past all the hype, and B.S. To cut out all the crap, and do what works. The funny things is, despite all the "research", the same basic exercises that worked 50 years ago...still work. The problem for the fitness industry is that it is very difficult to "sell" hard work. No one wants to hear that it is going to be difficult, and going to require consistent effort. Everyone wants the quick "8 weeks to greatness" fix.

The Basic's of the Wendler 531 Program

  1. Use Big Basic Movements
  2. Start Out Lighter Than You Should
  3. Make Slow Steady Progress
  4. Kick Ass and Have Fun

That's pretty much it. It seems so simple when you think about it, and honestly it should be. Do you really think you need a degree in biomechanics to figure out that hard work produces results over the long haul.

" Don't fall for that crap that people are peddling on the message boards, in magazines or on TV. Get your shit in order, and get your training in order. Start kicking ass, and take out the crap that doesn't matter. " -Jim Wendler-

As subtle as always, Jim gets straight to the point. And that is what the Wendler 531 program does to. It cuts to the chase, to what's important. Do you care more about the hype of a shiny new training program, or are you interested in real world results? The Wendler 531 program focuses on the basics, and pushing them hard. The results people have gotten from this program over the past several years speaks for itself. The fact that he released a 2nd edition reflects that success. In the next post I will reveal what is included in the new 2nd edition.
