Basketball Workouts To Increase Quickness

basketball-workouts-increase-quickness

So Shaq has finally retired.  The Big Aristotle has finally hung up his size 22, and become The Big IRA.  I don’t know about you, but I will miss him.  Even as his skills diminished he was a great ambassador for the NBA.  Of course whenever one of the greatest to play his position retires the discussion of where he ranks is inevitable.  Rarely do so many people agree on “the list”.

Top 5 Centers of All Time

  1. Wilt Chamberlin
  2. Bill Russell
  3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
  4. Shaquille O’Neil
  5. Hakeem Olajuwon

I have to admit that I agree with this list, though I think that Hakeen and Shaq are almost too close to call.  Shaq was a force in the middle, but no one has ever had the footwork and the quickness at the pivot that Hakeem had.  It’s funny how quickly you forget how good athletes were once they retire for a few years.  Let me refresh your memory…

How sick was that?!  To be the quick, and that explosive at his size is amazing.  Just watching Hakeem work you can learn a valuable lesson.  Working on your footwork and quickness in your basketball workouts is a great way to get good looks in open space.  Some of the moves he put on “The Admiral” are so nasty that when he is done he is wide open.  How much would your FG% increase if you could get yourself into good position that close to the rim?

Now obvious if you run the point or are a 2 guard you aren’t going to be posting up a lot.  That doesn’t mean that you don’t need to develop footwork and explosiveness.  If you are out on the break, or cutting through the lane you need quick feet.  It one of the basics of all sport; the quicker more explosive athlete will generally win.  The last think you want is to be the guy that got his ankles broken.

Now if you can’t hit an open jumper or a layup then you have some work to do.  But you can increase your quickness and explosiveness with the proper basketball workouts.  In a previous post I showed you the Snatch Grip High PullIt is a great movement to increase your vertical leap.  So what are some exercises to add to your basketball workouts to increase your quickness?

You may or may not have heard about “The Truth About Quickness”It has been the top selling training program for developing explosiveness and quickness in athletes.  Well Alex Maroko has now launched “The Truth About Quickness 2.0”.  Somehow he has managed to improve on an already great program.
