Tyrann Mathieu Workout

Tyrann Mathieu WorkoutTyrann Mathieu

5'9 179 lbs

Cornerback/Punt returner

The honey badger might be the best kick returner since Devin Hester and the Tyrann Mathieu workout can get all the credit.  Let's take a look at how a corner like Tyrann gets that perfect combination of speed, power and quickness in order to be the nations best playmaker even with his small stature...

Tyrann, although being an undersized corner week in and week out makes play after play with elusive speed and quickness.  At his college LSU they have one of the best strength coaches in the country, Tommy Moffitt, which has relly allowed Tyrann to become faster, quicker, and way more explosive.

Tommy the head strength coach follows a base program for the football players like this 4 day split.

Monday - Olympic Explosive Lifts- these include a base of cleans, snatches, jerks and then following up with auxiliary lifts to help aid in the strength of them.

Tuesday - Core Lifts - This usually includes squats, front squats, bench press, incline press and then auxiliary lifts

Wednesday - OFF

Thursday - Olympic Lifts- Same as Monday

Friday - Core Lifts - Same as Tuesday

What he may do on the last 2 days he will focus on the different lifts but same base as the other days.

Remember to get the speed and quickness like Tyrann it takes a solid strength foundation then followed with powerful quick explosive hips like you can try here with this training.  When performing plyometrics or speed training make sure to focus on performing them low volume with very high intensity to really recruit your fast twitch fibers.

For a base of speed training, just make sure to perform sprints, jumps, and cone drills for about 30 minutes prior to your weight training.  This short intense bouts of speed and explosiveness show the best improvement in 40 yard dashes, shuttles, and especially on the field elusivenss.

Put it all together and train hard if you want to become the most elusive player in the nation like Tyrann Mathieu.
